A wonderfully cheerful collection of 17 vintage hand-pieced pinwheel and whirligig-style quilt blocks, each one made in its own combination of old fabrics and colors.

This collection is full of character. Soft mint greens, dusty pinks, lavender, yellow, teal and blue are mixed with wonderful stripes, tiny florals, geometric prints and solids. Each block is slightly different, yet together they have the wonderfully collected appearance of an old-fashioned scrap quilt.

The blocks have been pieced by hand and were never assembled into a finished quilt. Points wander, seams vary and edges aren’t perfectly square—the beautiful little irregularities that tell you these were made by someone’s hands rather than a machine-perfect modern process.

The exact age and history of these blocks are unknown. Based on their fabrics and construction, they appear consistent with early-to-mid 20th-century quilt work, possibly from around the 1930s–1940s, but a specific date cannot be guaranteed.

These are old, unfinished textiles and show evidence of age and storage. Please expect loose threads, raw edges, uneven stitching, variations in size and shape, fading, discoloration, small stains, age spots and other imperfections. Please review photographs carefully for condition.

With 17 blocks already completed, there is wonderful potential here for someone to continue the original maker’s work—finishing them into a small quilt, incorporating them into a larger patchwork piece, making pillows or framed textile art, or simply preserving them as examples of old handwork.

Seventeen little pinwheels, stitched by hand and tucked away unfinished—ready for another quiltmaker to decide how their story ends.

Sold as one collection of 17.
