A wonderfully scrappy collection of vintage hand-pieced four-point star quilt blocks, each completely unique and full of color, pattern, and character.
These oversized stars were constructed from an incredible assortment of vintage fabrics—tiny florals, ginghams, plaids, stripes, polka dots, novelty prints, solids and other wonderful remnants. Some blocks retain their original newspaper foundation on the reverse, offering a beautiful glimpse into the traditional make-do quilting process used to construct them.
One newspaper piece visible on the back is dated October 1971, making this an especially charming piece of textile and quilting history.
Lot includes:
12 four-point star quilt blocks
• Approximately 12–30 inches across, with sizes varying considerably
• Hand pieced
• Scrappy mixed-fabric construction
• Several retain newspaper/paper foundation pieces on the reverse
• Newspaper visible on at least one block dates to 1971
• No two stars are alike
• Sold together as one complete lot
These are unfinished vintage quilt components and have been stored for decades, so expect irregular edges, loose threads, wrinkles, variations in stitching, paper remnants and other signs of age and handmade construction. Please review photographs carefully for condition.
Perfect for completing into a statement quilt, wall hanging, pillows, framed textile art, clothing, bags, Christmas stockings, or other heirloom sewing projects. I especially love these left exactly as they are—the irregular shapes and old paper backs are part of their story.
